What are your business trips like?
Tomorrow, I pack up and head to a four day business trip which will consist of a meeting I helped plan, a workout session, and leadership day. Other members of my rotational leadership program will be traveling through out the country to meet for a few days. Traveling for work can be a mixed bag. I enjoy traveling to destinations that I would not have had the time or money to visit on my own. Even though I am there for business, I try to take in the charm of the cities I travel to. To date, I have flown to Mexico, Chicago, NYC, Connecticut, Orlando, Melbourne (Florida), and Kansas City, and more. My co-workers who do not travel as much get a little jealous when I talk about going on trips. What they don’t often realize is that business trips are hard work. (Sure there are nice lunches and dinners and networking opportunities but it’s go-go-go from 6AM-11PM).
My business trip will be jam packed days of learning, lectures, and breakout sessions. We are meeting at the Dolce Center. According to their website, it “provides a unique environment designed to foster creative thinking, learning and stimulating dialogue. The mission to run productive and enjoyable meetings and education programs are the primary focus of the staff. Experience a world-class conference center that’s so close and so idyllic, you’ll wish you had discovered it sooner.”
Not only will we meet at the center, we will also sleep there. Although we will only be forty-five minutes from Manhattan, there will be no time for fun offsite… no time for site seeing. In addition to my meetings, I will also try to keep on top of my work, attempt to socialize with my peers, and be attentive and engaging each day . I’m heading into this trip with a bad head cold. Even with all of that against me, I am looking forward to the trip.

Sounds more like bragging than informative…
Have fun on your cool business trip!

Hey Jennifer,
I’ve only been on one business trip, and it was horrible. My first time in NYC, and I had to share a small hotel room with an unpleasant manager. And the hotel’s hot water wasn’t working.
I’m afraid to go on another trip.

Ryan- Thanks for the feedback. I don’t consider my post as bragging but more I’m sharing my business trip experiences with others (although, it’s safe to say I’m proud I have this opportunity). As AJ states, he has only been on one business trip. What better place to learn about business trips for millennial professionals than at Newly Corporate? I personally find settings like the Dolce Center fascinating. I welcome any of our readers to guest post on a creative “Day in the Life” sort of post.

If you can, I highly recommend planning a weekend trip if possible. I did weekend trips to Vegas, Orange County, Boston and a couple of other cities while traveling.
I guess it’s different if your trips are “one offs” versus being on the road all the time. I traveled every week for 10 months, so I used to leave a big suitcase with ALL my clothes at the hotel and only pack for weekends when I’d come home.
My favourite part of business trips is the fact that all expenses are paid…
Have fun!!

I used to travel a bit for a consulting gig that I had and it was awesome. I think that its a great topic for a post, just be careful to avoid a rodomontade, listing your experiences. Great post though!
