This isn't a question I can answer for everyone. We are all entitled to an opinion and I love that we can share our ideas here.

We can't ignore what is important to other people... otherwise, we become ignorant. Should we ignore affinity groups because we are not apart of them? I don't see the benefit of that.

To each his own... but be tolerant of your brother's and sister's thoughts.

Jennifer: Why do we need to proclaim sexual preferences in the workplace? Most heterosexuals don't go around the office "proclaiming" their sexuality because it has nothing to do with work and isn't relevant to the environment. Why would it be relevant for anyone else?

@ Yana- I appreciate your opinion but I feel like this topic should be brought up in the work place... Look at the military for example, people can not be themselves (by proclaiming their preferences) and as a result of not dealing with it, things get out of hand.

@ AJ- As an ally, I hope that more millennials become open minded to other's preferences. For people who identify as GLBT, having a safe place to work is so important.

This is a tough issue to discuss but I hope more of our brilliant readers will weigh in. Let's get an intellgent discussion going.

@yana: a corporation's non-discrimination and health insurance policies are definitely a subject in the office for lgbt workers! also, at most workplaces, people build relationships by sharing details from their personal lives. sharing a story about your partner doesn't mean sharing graphic sexual details--it's the kind of stuff people use to get to know each other.

The CEI isn't about the ability to do the job. It's about things like equal-rights in health insurance for GLBT employees.

To be honest, I don't see what sexual orientation/preference/etc. has to do with the ability to do the job or why it should even be a subject in the office.

Thanks for pointing this out. For GLBT folk, this list might be a good way to decide where to spend your money and where to apply for jobs.

For non-GLBT folks, I think it could be a wake-up call as to how GLBT people are often second-class citizens, even at their own companies.
