Jason-- I agree! I work on the top floor of my building and ride with executives at least once every day.

Everyone should have an elevator pitch but even if you don't, be conscious of how you act and behave because others are probably watching!

This comes in handy when you work on the 54th floor of a 54 floor building. In fact, sometimes I give an elevator speech without even thinking about it. You never know when you'll walk to the elevator at the same time as the CEO/CFO or the like.

This is oft-repeated and hardly-ever-heeded advice - but it is excellent advice.

I would only add that in addition to being an important way of being able to present yourself, going through the drill of creating an elevator speech is an effective way to force you to examine and come to an understanding of how you add value. When that light goes on, your elevator speech will become all the more compelling.
