Ryan,

Those are some seriously great tips! I love the GPS tip. I always forget to bring mine when I travel and then regret it later. The Hertz Never Lost system is terrible and I prefer my GPS much better.

Printing flights the day of your trip is another WONDERFUL idea. I could have used that many times!

For receipts, get a daily journal and tape them in there. When you get back, you know exactly what day they were charged and you can take them out when you are done and you can make a copy of them for when your expense envelope gets “lost”. I like the Moleskine daily planner for this purpose.

If you have a data plan for your phone, bookmark http://mobile.flightstats.com. This will save you lots of pain if your flight is delayed. Even better, set up text alerts for your departures so that you know if they are delayed. I got caught at the airport because I didn’t check once. Now I never leave without setting up text alerts and checking online.

Simliarly, print out a listing of all flights flying the same route you are taking. If your flight is delayed/canceled you need to act fast to get those precious last seats on the remaining flights. So, know what they are and who to call. Do it ASAP if you sense trouble brewing.

Have a portable GPS? Going to a city you’ve never been to? Bring it. You’ll never realize how valuable it is until you have it in your hand in a new city. Not only will it guide the cabby taking the “long” way, but it will help you find something to eat, the nearest ATM, or maybe what streets you should take back to your hotel.
These are just a couple of things that I can think of, but there’s always more good info out there.

I personally have a "business card drawer" for my non-primary contacts. If I communicate with them often, I add them as an Outlook Contact which syncs with my blackberry. I've tried using card scan but I type fast so it takes longer to scan it in than it would be for me to add them in outlook. How about you, Andre?

I travel a fair amount for my job, a few things I've learned to make the experince easier are: 1) Less is more - I quit bring jeans, and lounge cloths, I just don't like lugging them around and I never end up having time to wear them anyway. and 2) This may be more for men, but Loafer style shoes!! it makes going through security so much easier! Great First Post!
