Acquired! Day 3

Day 3

8:00am The new CEO hosts a meeting at our home office. I work remotely, so there is now way I will meet him. There is a conference call for the meeting, but I cannot attend because I am working with a customer today.

12:00pm I meet the local sales rep and system engineer for the big company. They tell me who they have as customers, and I tell them who I have. There is a lot of overlap, but there is definitely some room for both of our books of business to expand. I am not a sales guy, so I can’t give them all the information they want but I promise to connect them to our local sales rep. They tell me how they are structured. They tell me it is likely that I will be able to continue working from home. They pay for lunch.

4:30pm One of my colleagues calls me to tell me what happened at this mornings meeting. He says the new CEO was “jovial”. He says it will be about a year before any significant changes happen. He also says we will get a new benefits package at the beginning of next year (only three months away), but he won’t got into specifics. We feel like it will be business as usual. Our guts tell us things will stay pretty much the same.

The newness and the excitement of the idea is starting to wear off. We are realizing that the changes aren’t going to be fast and drastic. The pace looks grueling. I wonder if I will I be able to play this smart and get ahead, or if I will I get bogged down by the seemingly endless waiting? The promise of change is there, but it is so far out on the horizon that I wonder if any efforts made today will bear fruit. I must be anxious. The news is only three days old and I’m calling the wait “endless”.

This is part of the Acquired! series.
