Primer
Here’s a good word to know: Primer. This one doesn’t sport as many syllables as the other words to know, but it can get a lot more done. Technically a primer is defined as “an introductory textbook”. On its own this doesn’t help you much, but when combined with the power of google it can be a game-changer. Let’s say your boss approaches you and says, “What do you know about open source software?” You might not know anything about open source software. If that is the case, keep your mouth shut. Instead, go to google and search for “open source software primer“. This is the quickest way to find a quick intro to the topic. Once you read the primer, you’ll be ready to engage in a meaningful conversation about the subject. And this is true for any subject. I’ve used this effectively on many occasions. It is like Clilff’s Notes for anything - and it is free.
